What is the connection between an austerity drive and toilet training? You're right! Disposable diapers cost a bomb!!
I was happilly putting groceries and other necessities, such as diapers (3 packs of Mamy Poko), milk formula (a 1.8kg tin of EyeQ Gain), in Tesco. Then Wham! I was slapped with a RM420 bill at the checkout counter. I went through the bill again to ensure that nothing was mis-priced or calculated twice after I'd reluctantly handed over my plastic card. No such luck. All was in order.
Which brings me to potty-training. Bryan is still not yet potty-trained. Nope, not even for big business. Call it laziness, call it his own non-readiness, call it anything and the fact remains that the diapers are burning a hole in my pocket. And more so now that my boss has confirmed that there will be no increments/bonus/promotion in 2009. Shites! Some books say that a child is ready to be potty-trained when he can go by for a few hours and the diaper is dry. Not Bryan. This little fella drinks milk like a fish so his diaper requires a change every 1-2 hours. Admittedly, I have not been putting in much effort to potty-training this toddler. Looks like now I have a real motivation, besides from the fact that he will outgrow the XXL size soon, at the rate he is drinking milk!
If anyone has any good tips to share on potty-training, or better still, if anyone is willing to stay in my house (all meals provided) for the next 3 months to potty-train Bryan, please, do give me a call immediately!

very expensive hor...everything go up...but salary sad sad...
wow he must be a heavy wetter... potty training definitely takes lots of patience!
hehehehe...you can send him to my house.
also...i think you could start potty training brandon now for his big biz. it's easier to train a baby ;) my cousin who works as a babysitter, managed to potty train the newborn to pee and poo in the potty when he was only 1 month old. can you believe how much $$ his parents save on diapers?
I'm sure u know the basics. It does require a lot of patience n readiness on Bryan's part. U can test if he's ready by trying out for a few days (maybe give it a 1 wk trial). If he's not ready yet, don't force him. Otherwise, it'll be stressful for all. Good luck!
Try potty training rewards. It worked great for our son. He loved pushing the audio push button hearing he is a Big Boy and opening a door to find a chocolate surprise. He really became involved. He was peeing and pooping in his potty within a week. Have a look and see if this would work for you. www.pottytrainingrewards.com
hahhaa, sound so desperate to potty train huh!!!
wow that is a hefty bill! wow..just read Barb's comment on the babysitter training a 1 mo baby to pee and poo in a potty? That's amazing! For me, it took us 1 week to potty train Ashley. After 1 week, she managed to pee in the wc but we still let her wear diapers when we brought her out then and at nights. We knew that she was ready to go off diapers when we're out when she told us that she wanetd to pee despite her wearing a diaper. As for diapers overnight, she started to wake up with dry diapers and we knew she was ready to go completely off diapers....it takes time..patience and alot of accidents! be prepared!:)
can i come for dinner everyday since i cant cook with hse under reno now..haha!
first, put the potty nearby at all times. then dont let him wear diaper esp during day time. he will tend to have accidents but its ok, keep on telling him to tell u if he wanna shee shee. washing pants is better than throwing away used diapers. bring the potty to his kukubird whenever u think its time for shee shee. if no, nvmd. do it again in another 30 or 45 min time. boys are easier to potty train coz their buttock dont 'touch' the potty like girls, except for big business.
err..have u been doing all that already?
My mom started training my nephew when he is 1 mth old and he hardly soil his diaper with #2. Now that he started to walk, my mom wants to train him to pee too...
I thought you are on Cloth Diapers... no?
wah sudah size XXL :|...gotta be hardworking if really wanna potty train. bring him to toilet every 30mins and then on the tap water...and he will stand there she she...and after a while he will get the cue, then slowly can start. that's how mine started
tell me about it man, shud start off wen baby loh, then easier. now my lil missy goin to be 2 de, hates the potty. aiyaya. sien :(
I agree with Jazz. Takes him to toilet every 30 mins/ 1 hour. If he doesn't want to pee, ok nvm. Come back again in another 10 mins.
And if he does pee in the toilet, praise him and tell him wat a good boy he is.
Also watch out for cues as to when he wants to pee, ie holding his crotch, change of facial expresssion when he is playing etc...
OMG! Friends in Malaysia warned us about high prices when we go back but RM400+ for diapers and a tin of milk???
Lucas is still on MamyPoko or 2 pcs cheap diapers at night.
Not sure who takes of Bryan during the day but that person has to be VERY PATIENT to put up with the frequent visits to loo or you can have a potty in the hall
Have you read this? http://apregnantpause.net/2008/08/22/no-more-nappies/
Sean is not potty trained too. I tried getting him to do his big business but it's only happened 3 times! So he's still on Mamy Poko too!
But are you sure Bryan has to be changed every 2 hours? That's a lot of diapers a day. Maybe buy cloth training diaper instead?
I still have those I bought when Sean was small and the size still fits. So when Sean pooped near bathing time I change him into cloth diaper to save on diaper.
