The Road-ies

If anyone asked me what I loathe most about my fellow countrymen, it has to be the lack of manners on the road (actually, the lack of civic-mindedness came in a close 2nd).

I spend at least 1.5hours on the road daily - 45mins to get to & fro work. On bad days (read: Friday evenings when it's raining), I take up to 2.5hrs just to get out from the Golden Triangle and back to PJ. That's a lot more hours I spend on the road than I spend with Bryan on a weekday! So obviously when I'm stuck in traffic, I look around and these are my personal observations, which I find more amusing then anything.

1) Men are more likely to give way to me compared to another woman
2) If you signal, you will most likely NOT be able to weave your way in as the car behind you will speed up
3) There's always one car travelling at 40 km/hr on the fast lane, and another travelling at 140 km/hr on the slow lane
4) A traffic jam is caused frequently by drivers turning a 2-lane traffic into 3 lanes (or more!)
5) A traffic jam is also caused by the errant driver who drives on the wrong lane, but swerves in at the last minute, causing the drive travelling in the right lane to slam his brakes (and hence, causing a jam)
6) You will always encounter a car whose driver is on its way to "reincarnation" (ie. in a darn big hurry)
7) And if you are in the way of the car from 6), the driver will flash his headlights at you repeatedly until you move out of his way
8) And if you don't, the car from 6) will swerve in and out using the left lanes
9) If you've been to SS2, you will find cars parked hap-hazardly to avoid paying RM0.60 for one hour of legal parking
10) If you can't get by, and you give the driver a slight honk, the driver will glare at you as if YOU are in the wrong
11) When someone is parked behind your car and you need to get out, the driver is not likely to apologise for the inconvenience he caused you
12) And of course, we have the reckless motorcylists whom weave in and out of traffic, and we have to avoid them like ants

Anyone else has other interesting observations?

Saturday Night Fever

We didn't go over to my parents' place like usual last Saturday as my Mum was down with a very bad cough. So didn't want to bring Bryan over there for fear of catching the bug as well. So after the music class, we went to Ikano with Bridget & Anya, and had lunch at Fasta Pasta. Luckily Bryan was very well-behaved and quietly ate his lunch. Then I pushed him in his pram to Cold Storage to grab some groceries (minced chicken for Bryan's pasta & white-washed potatoes for his mashed potatoes & peas) while waiting for my maid to get her haircut at the "RM12, 10mins" shop.

By the time we got home, it was close to 4pm. Played with Bryan a bit before giving him milk. Then he rolled around in bed for another 30mins or so. By then I felt like sleeping already! So I quickly put him to bed and pengsan myself. Suddenly, I heard the bedroom door open, and in walked VT. Lo and behold, it was already 7pm!! The nap was soooooo good. Bryan was still sleeping as well so we decided to turn on the lights. True enough, he woke up soon after but grinning & bablling all the way - must had been a good nap for him too.

Being slightly more adventurous than usual, we decided to head out to Souled Out cafe at Sri Hartamas for dinner. I had grilled skewered butter fish and VT had curry chiken with flat bread (which was REALLY, roti canai with curry chicken ha ha Sucker). There were many people there, mainly Caucasians, but service was good. We shared Cheese Nachos as well, but it was mediocre. Music was great though, lots of tunes from the 80's & 90's. Even Bryan wiggled his body to the beat. At least the music lessons aren't going to waste!

After dinner, we took a drive around the area since we hadn't been there for at least a year. So many new shops and new housing development as well. We wanted to drive more to have a look at the houses, but Bryan was yawning & rubbing his eyes so we decided to head back.

But of course, he tricked us! He didn't sleep till close to 11pm. Sucker for the 2nd time that night!

What a Surprise!

Post lunchtime on a Friday proceeded as usual - catch up with the traders, sign-off the reports and I was preparing for my 3pm meeting. Then I heard someone mention my name. I looked up and saw the BIGGEST basket of flowers, complete with a plush soft toy dog perched on e top!!
The delivery guy said my name again and my first response was, "Betul ah?" (Right, ah?) I immediately suspected that it was from VT since our anniversary was 3 days ago. So I checked the delivery order. True enough, it was from him :)

Anyway, the basket has at least 100 stalks of pink & peach roses, mixed with eustoma and berries. It is so heavy that I had to ask my male colleague to carry it to my desk. Later have to get him to carry to my car as well. Somemore my workstation so small but luckily my neighbour on leave, so got place to park the flowers. Wished I had my camera with me to take a photo before the flowers started wilting!

You may ask why the flowers are 3 days late? I also dunno....when you see VT, you ask him ok? Better late than never!!!

Low kong - thank you for the lovely flowers. I know now you have to eat bread for the next week. MUAH!

Why So Big?

Today was the start of the BCBG sale. So a colleague and I curi out during lunch to go to KLCC to check the scene out. Sale wasn't half bad - I'd managed to get a pair of workpants and a summer dress, both at 60% markdown. Quite pleased with the purchase.....of course, until the credit card bill arrives!

Back at work, Hooi Wan & Aileen came to check my goodies out. Hooi Wan is expecting at the moment (4mths going to 5mths) but she's still very petite.

HW: Hey, show me your stuff
Me: Ok.....here
HW: (holding up dress) Wah......why you buy so big??
Me: (bengang)

Actually, I found it very funny. Too bad I'm still lugging around the additional 11kgs of pregnancy weight but have decided that I'll lose it after #2 LOL. So good at giving myself excuses right?

My dear Hooi Wan, I wasn't offended at all. But I had to blog about this to give you a bit of s**t lah...cannot let you go scot-free right???!

Oh, What a Day!

Have you ever had a sinking feeling that things weren't going quite right on a particular day? Just like everything mucks up on that one day. Last Sunday was one of them.

Funnily, it started off like any other typical Sundays - morning walk with Bryan, quick breakfast of yogurt & toast (Bryan - rice cereal & yogurt). I think it all started with the thunderstorm just after 3pm.

Scene 1
Backdrop: We were at the Curve and I had wanted to get another car seat (for a good & legit reason!).

Me: Let's go get car seat at Mothercare
VT: No need lah, waste money
Me: What? But you agreed already!!
VT: Not like it's used daily
Me: *fuming*
(silence)

15mins later........
VT: You want to go to Atria to get it?
Me: Dun wan
VT: Why?
Me: No sale (merajuk)

Scene 2
Backdrop: We're back at home. It's now past 5pm.

Me: Bryan, why won't you nap? It's been 5 and a half hours since your last nap.
Bryan: Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah
Me: Later we go kai-kai....it's Kong Kong's birthday dinner. You'll get to play with your cousins, Leanne & Jia Wen. You good boy, nap now ok. We need to leave the house before 6:30pm.
Bryan: Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah
Me: Haiyah...later you get sleepy and cranky, you don't complain ok...
Bryan: Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah
Me: Oklah, you don't want to sleep, don't sleep.
Bryan: (all smiles)

20mins & a warm bath later......
Bryan: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............
.......until 7:15pm when we had to wake him up. Late for my Dad's birthday dinner!!

Scene 3
Backdrop: Outside Megah medicine hall/supermarket, after dinner

I went down to buy Bryan's formula. As I was walking towards the shop, I heard an awful "crunch" sound. VT had "injured" our new toy (yes, it's a spanking new car!).

(Rest of the scene censored due to the violence element)

See? I wasn't kidding about having a really bad day!

Champion in Stupidity

I just had to blog this down because I found it sooooooooo funny!

Background: The office replaced our photocopy machines with a colour machine cum printer. I didn't find the time to apply for access to it till this morning. In the meantime, I was content with printing B&W. Upon application, the Canon chap came over to my desk to perform the necessary setup, and to show me how to print in colour.

Here's a snippet of our conversation:

Canon: This is how to print colour.....change this to colour......blah blah blah
Me: Ok, seems easy enough
Canon: Then if you wish to photocopy in colour, you need to use this password
Me: Oh, ok can photocopy colour also!
(Me thinking a bit)
Me: So I can photocopy a B&W document and it comes out in colour???

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough said!

Favourite Times of the Day

On a normal working day, I have certain favourite times of the day that I particularly look forward to...

1) Getting in to work early, reading my emails over a steaming cup of coffee
2) Planning on where to go for lunch with Bridget
3) Lunch itself
4) My 4Pm can of diet Coke
5) Entering my MIL's house and Bryan greeting me with a super-huge smile :)

On the flip side, there are the not-so-hot times of the day...

1) Meetings - I find anything over half an hour a waste of time
2) Demanding customers acting as if they are the only ones I'm servicing
3) Sitting in traffic jams to and fro work
4) Having dinner without VT :(

As the saying goes, "Some days you're the pigeon, some days the statue".

Tag: 8 Random Facts About Myself

Peridot&Sapphire (how the heck do you guys link the username to the blog???) left a comment on my posting to say that I've been "tagged" - a first for me! I'm not sure how it works until I went to her blog. I suppose we're just supposed to write on the given topic right, so here goes.....

1) As opposed to Peridot&Sapphire, I am very organised and I enjoy planning for everything! VT thinks that I can be quite inflexible and an*l about it sometimes. If you are ever wondering of what to get for me as a gift, a planner would be perfect!

2) Linked to 1) above, I looooooooooooooove to make checklists. I make checklist for stuff to buy, thing to do today, things to do tomorrow, things to do next week.....you get my drift. Once it's done, there's nothing more satisfying then ticking them off!

3) I enjoy reading biographies and non-fiction; latest author on the fav list (remember what I told you about my lists?? haw haw) is Mitch Albom.

4) If I weren't in my current job, I would want to me a columnist - just like Carrie Bradshaw in S*x & the City.

5) I need to have a cuppa (of coffee) everyday - it's my defibrillator ha ha. If no coffee means brain-dead for the rest of the day.

6) One of the best feeling in this world is walking out the office every night, satisfied after a hard day's work.

7) I love shoes and handbags. My largest purchase at one-go was 8 pairs in New York (but 2 pairs were for VT lah).

8) I don't particularly enjoy watching TV. I would either watch a movie on DVD or settle down with a good book or magazine instead.

I don't have anyone to tag this to.....don't have many online friends ha ha

Of Tom Yam and Mien Kam

(This is a backdated post....no thanks to them inedible Cookies!)

Last Saturday started out like any other Saturdays; the usual suspects were early morning walk around the neighbourhood with Bryan to look at dogs, Barney on DVD, music class at noon and my parents' place after that. My parents are great cooks (yes, even my Dad!!) and as I only visit them once a week on Saturdays, I get to dictate the dinner menu. So screening this week was my Mum's special Tom Yumm loaded with seafood and my Dad was premiering Mien Kam (wrapped daun kodok with various condiments), to suit the Thai-themed dinner.

Then my aunt Pat called. My aunt & uncle were down from Singapore for a weekend visit to KL! I have not seen them for more than 6 months so it was indeed a pleasant surprise. What's more, they were coming over for dinner....WITH DURIANS!! Dinner at my parents are always about abundance so we had plenty of food to feed unexpected guests.

Dinner started close to 8pm as both VT and Uncle Michael just returned from work. Dinner started off with a bang, or should I say, a clash as the glass with leong fun (grass jelly) fell onto the table and broke as my Dad reached across the table. So another 10mins were spent frantically sweeping up the pieces of broken glass and wiping the spill. In the process, Uncle Choo Tock cut his finger and blood was gushing out at the speed of Niagara Falls. Some Savlon and a plaster later, we finally sat down for dinner (which was I must say, totally scumptious!). Apart from the food, what I really enjoy is the great company. My aunts/uncles and I get on very well and we are able to chat like friends and laugh together.

Before I knew it, it was time for me to go. VT had earlier driven home with Bryan as he was getting cranky already. I hung around for a while more before heading home. It was a hectic Saturday but it was thoroughly enjoyed, nonetheless. I should call back and dictate the menu for this Saturday!

Cookies

Sorry, not the edible sort. I couldn't log into Blogger yesterday as the cookies function on my desktop was not enabled. Doesn't help that I have ZERO knowledge in IT. Setting up this blog isa huge achievement for me already. I tried muddling around the settings yesterday and even tried some of the stuff suggested by Jazzmint (thanks, dear!) but couldn't work. So whole of yesterday couldn't blog....so san fu man (painful)...as if you've got diarrhoea but the loo out of order! But luckily was very busy fighting fire at work yesterday so I didn't need to tear my hair out.

This early morning, I caught hold of our IT guy and asked him to sort it out. He fiddled around for 5 minutes and voila, I can access Blogger and blog again WHOOPIEE!!! Can 'let go' again hehehe

By the way, my idea of cookies relate to Famous Amos' chocolate chips & pecan.
